S PHYLLIN DX Acebrophylline (100mg) & Doxofylline (400mg) Acebrophylline is a bronchodilator and mucoregulator. It is used primarily in the treatment of asthma and COPD. Mechanism of action: Acebrophylline acts by improving mucociliary clearance, reducing the viscosity of bronchial mucus, and exerting bronchodilator effects. It is believed to work by inhibiting the activity of phosphodiesterase enzyme, leading to increased levels of intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and thereby causing relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles. Doxofylline is also a bronchodilator, primarily used for the management of asthma and COPD. Mechanism of action: Doxofylline is a xanthine derivative and works similarly to other methylxanthines like theophylline. It acts as a bronchodilator by inhibiting phosphodiesterase enzyme, which leads to increased levels of intracellular cAMP, resulting in relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles. Doxofylline has a more selective action on phosphodiesterase (PDE4) compared to other xanthines, which may contribute to its better tolerability profile.
